2016 is a significant year for honouring Professor Fei Xiaotong (1910–2005) because it is the 80th
anniversary of his fieldwork in Kaixiangong Village. This volume is the second of a four-part set. It
focusses on Fei Xiaotong and related studies of China in comparative perspective, and includes
articles by authors from the UK, Japan, USA, Germany, China and Hong Kong. It also includes a
reflective article which demonstrates a process of the globalization of Chinese sociology, and a
predictive article that provides a vision of world anthropology with China and other countries as
participants.
Four appendices have been included in this book. There are more pieces of the innovative ‘Chinese
Social Science’—a branch of ‘Chinese for Specific Purposes’ (CSP), written by UK-based Chinese
teaching and translation experts. A dialogue and comments between scholars from America,
the UK, China and Germany exemplify Fei Xiaotong’s case for how his work can contribute to the
globalization of China’s sociology and anthropology.

Globalization of Chinese Social Sciences: Commemorating the 105th Anniversary of Professor Fei Xiaotong’s Birth is the second volume in the Understanding China and the World series, edited by the late Chinese sociologist ZHENG Hangsheng (1936–2014) and British–Chinese scholar Xiangqun Chang. Both the title of the volume and book series deliberately reflects a new perspective on China, putting China in the context of globalization and thus inspiring comparative studies that enable non-Chinese to understand China and the world.
