Abstract: The dialogue on Fei Xiaotong’s academic contributions between Gary Hamilton and Xiangqun Chang, published in this issue, reminds me of my own experiences with some Chinese students on similar topics. I spent three years (2009–11) as a Visiting Professor at the School of Sociology and Anthropology at Sun Yat-sen University, China, and engaged in discussions with students.
