Abstract: Social sciences were introduced into China from the West, and the concept of social science did not exist within the traditional Chinese academic system. Chinese social sciences have always tried to reduce the disparity with Western social sciences, while attempting to establish a system of social sciences with Chinese characteristics. However, the development of social sciences throughout the world remains very far from attaining the ideal objective of becoming a real science for investigating society. The computational social science emerging from the age of big data may lead to a revolution in the social sciences, manifested in a shift from a measurement to a computational research paradigm. Moreover, it may resolve the problems and flaws that exist within the social sciences, enabling them to become sciences that are truly capable of explaining the patterns of human behaviour and social changes.
