Global Century Press
Established in 2014, Global Century Press (GCP, formerly Global China Press, UK Company No.: 08892970) is the world’s first publisher dedicated to producing bilingual academic and popular books in the social sciences and humanities. GCP stands as the only independent platform for uncensored work on China, with a focus on studies of China from global and comparative perspectives, Chinese perspectives on the world and human knowledge, and global perspectives on China.
A subsidiary company of the Global China Academy (GCA, UK CIO Charity No.: 1198983, a UK-based independent worldwide fellowship), GCP is committed to encourage global and comparative studies on China in the social sciences and humanities. Its bilingual publications serve the purposes of disseminating related academic research, knowledge transfer, and public education globally.
GCP publishes a range of publications, from academic journals, edited volumes, selected conference papers and theme-based articles, to research monographs, book series, teaching and learning materials on Chinese for social sciences and reference books, printed mostly in colour. Works are published in various forms, such as print, electronic versions, video, audio, on the internet and on the mobile internet.
GCP is a member of The Association of Learned & Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP).
Open access books and journals
Under our open access model, we make 80 percent of our journal and book content freely available to the public, promoting academic exchange and knowledge sharing. This means that readers can freely access and download articles, chapters or portions of a journal or book’s content, without any payment or subscription required.
At the same time, we also offer a subscription model, providing wider access and services to readers who need them. Through subscription, readers can gain access to the full content of the journal or book, special features or additional resources, as well as other benefits exclusive to subscribers.
This is significantly different from hybrid open-access models, which are typically based on the payment of the author or their institution. Through this dual model, we aim to balance considerations of public interest and commerciality, meeting a broad readership’s demand for open access, while also providing financial support for the sustainable development of journals and books.
House Style Guide
This guide to our house style is designed to take your work from initial manuscript to final publication with a minimum of fuss. Our style broadly follows APA 7th edition but has evolved over time through our growing experience of dual language editing and typesetting. Earlier publications (before 2023) may not follow all of the current guide’s specifications.
The GCP House Style Guide is divided into three parts. Part I sets out guidelines for submitting your manuscript to us. Part II sets out style guidelines for writing and formatting your manuscript, and the best way to provide text, images and diagrams to us. Part III explores GCP’s dual language styles and rules, developed with both English and Chinese academics, graphic designers, editors and proofreaders, and offers an example of the dual language information (a service unique to GCP) displayed at the end of each book.
Dual language
GCP’s dual language styles and rules have been developed with both English and Chinese academics, graphic designers, editors and proofreaders. They reached their most up-to-date form in the book China and the Shared Human Future: Exploring Common Values and Goals, by Martin Albrow, edited by Xiangquan Chang, which was formally launched at the London Book Fair 2022. GCP is applying its house style to all published journals and books and making them available in paper form by submitting them to the UK’s deposit libraries and online by submitting them to Crossref. GCP dual language information is displayed at the end of each book. This service is a unique feature of GCP.

Our events
