Abstract: The 7th Global China Dialogue was organised by Global China Academy and ESRC Centre for Corpus Approaches to Social Science, Lancaster University, with support from Tsinghua University, China, for organising speakers from China, on the 10th December at the British Academy, London. Presented here are summaries of special addresses of Opening and Closing sessions and abstracts of panel speeches. Anthony Giddens (Baron Giddens) is a renowned contemporary sociologist. He is the former Director of and Emeritus Professor at the Department of Sociology in LSE.
Dan Chugg is Director North East Asia & China, Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, UK Government. He was the British Ambassador to Myanmar (Burma) (2018-2021).
YANG Xiaoguang is Minister of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the United Kingdom. He previously served as Counsellor/Deputy Director General, Department of European Affairs.
Martin Albrow FAcSS is Professor Emeritus in the University of Wales in 1989, Former President of the British Sociological Association (BSA), Founding and Honorary President of Global China Academy until 2021.
PENG Kaiping is Dean of School of Social Sciences, head of the psychology department at Tsinghua University, and the chair of the Academic Committee of Social Science School in Tsinghua University, China.
Martin Jacques is the author of the global best-seller When China Rules the World: the End of the Western World, Senior Fellow at the Department of Politics and International, University and Life Fellow at Global China Academy, UK.
ZHAO Kejin is a Professor and Chair of Department of International Relations, Deputy-Dean of the School of Social Sciences, Deputy Director of Institute for Global Industry, Tsinghua University, China.
Jeffrey D. Sachs is a University Professor and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University, where he directed the Earth Institute from 2002 until 2016. He is also President of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network and a commissioner of the UN Broadband Commission for Development.
Nick Butler is Visiting Professor and founding Chair of the Policy Institute at King College London, chairs three businesses – Promus Associates, Ridgeway Information and the Sure Chill company which specialises in innovative refrigeration technology.
Robert Falkner is the Research Director of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment and an Associate Professor of International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
HU Bin is currently an associate research fellow at the Institute of Climate Change and Sustainable Development of Tsinghua University.
Madeline Carr is Professor of Global Politics and Cyber Security, Dept of Computer Science, Faculty of Engineering Science, University College London, Director of the UK-wide Research Institute in Sociotechnical Cyber Security (RISCS) which looks at the human and organizational factors of cybersecurity.
Nigel Inkster CMG has been Senior Advisor to the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) since June 2017. Prior to that he worked full -time at IISS from 2007 first as Director for Transnational Threats and Political Risk then as Director for Future Conflict and Cyber Security.
Xiaobai Shen is a Senior lecturer in International and Chinese Business, the University of Edinburgh Business School and Honorary Research Fellow, Shanghai Institute of Science of Sciences, Shanghai Municipal Government, China.
RONG Ke received his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. He is currently the deputy director at the Institute of Economics, School of Social Science at Tsinghua University in China.
Peter van der Veer is Emeritus Director of the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity in Göttingen and Emeritus Distinguished University Professor at Utrecht University.
Laurence Roulleau-Berger is Research Director at National Center for Scientific Research (France), Professor at Triangle, École Normale Supérieure of Lyon.
Carsten Herrmann-Pillath is Professor and Permanent Fellow at the Max Weber Centre for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies, University of Erfurt, Germany and and Distinguished Visiting Professor at Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University, China.
Qing Cao is an Associate Professor in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures and Curator (Oriental Museum) in the University Library and Collections at Durham University.
LI Chunling is a Chief Research Fellow of Institute of Sociology of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), the Head of the Department of Youth Studies and Education Sociology at the Institute, and the vice chairman of the CASS Center for China Education Development (CCED).
Mark Lowcock is a Distinguished Non-Resident Fellow at the Center for Global Development. He joined the Center in June 2021 following a 36-year career in international development policy and programme management and global humanitarian issue.
Masood Ahmed is president of the Center for Global Development. He joined the Center in January 2017, capping a 35-year career driving economic development policy initiatives relating to debt, aid effectiveness, trade, and global economic prospects at major international institutions including the IMF, World Bank, and DFID.
Colin Bradford is the lead co-chair of the China-West Dialogue, a non-resident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, and a global fellow at the Berlin Global Solutions Initiative.
ZHENG Lu received his Ph.D. from Stanford University and is Associate Professor of Sociology, “RONG” Professor of Data Sciences, Affiliated Professor in Schwarzman College in Tsinghua University and Adjunct Professor of Sociology in Texas A&M University.
